Blood is Blood Drive Virginia Beach, VA

The Virginia Beach Blood is Blood Drives represent an important chapter in the history of Blood is Blood's mission to promote blood donation, strengthen the blood supply, and advance equality in blood donation.

In July 2018, Blood is Blood founder Jordan James was invited to Virginia Beach, Virginia, by the Old Dominion Girls of Leather to participate in and support a community blood drive held under the Blood is Blood banner. The event brought together community members, advocates, and supporters who shared a commitment to saving lives through blood donation while raising awareness about blood donor eligibility policies affecting many gay and bisexual men.

Following the success of the inaugural event, Jordan returned to Virginia Beach in July 2019 as the Old Dominion Girls of Leather once again hosted a Blood is Blood Drive. Together, the 2018 and 2019 drives resulted in 44 blood donations, helping save up to 132 lives through the generosity of participating donors.

These events demonstrated the growing reach of the Blood is Blood movement beyond Western New York and highlighted the power of community partnerships in promoting blood donation, education, and inclusion. Through the dedication of local organizers, volunteers, and donors, the Virginia Beach Blood is Blood Drives helped strengthen the blood supply while advancing conversations about equality and access within the blood donation system.

Blood is Blood remains grateful to the Old Dominion Girls of Leather, the volunteers, and the donors who made these events possible and helped further the mission of encouraging every eligible person to help save lives through blood donation.
