Blood is Blood Logo History

Blood is Blood Logo History

Since its founding in 2015, the Blood is Blood logo has represented far more than a brand—it symbolizes equality, compassion, advocacy, and the belief that every eligible person should have the opportunity to help save lives through blood donation.

Over the years, the organization's visual identity has evolved alongside its mission. While individual logo designs have changed to reflect the growth of Blood is Blood, the message behind them has remained the same: blood has no sexual orientation, race, gender, religion, or background—it simply saves lives.

The Evolution of Our Identity

First Generation Logo (2015–2021)

The original Blood is Blood logo was introduced when the organization was founded in 2015. It became the face of the movement during Blood is Blood's earliest advocacy efforts, including the Community Rally for Equality in Blood Donation, the launch of our Blood Drives, public awareness campaigns, and the organization's early work advocating for changes to the federal blood donation policy affecting many gay and bisexual men.

For six years, the original logo represented the foundation of Blood is Blood and became recognized throughout Western New York and beyond as a symbol of equality, education, and hope.

Current Logo (2021–Present)

In 2021, Blood is Blood introduced its current logo to reflect the organization's continued growth, expanded advocacy, and enduring commitment to equality in blood donation.

The updated design incorporates the colors of the Pride flag, symbolizing Blood is Blood's roots within the LGBTQ+ community while reinforcing its mission of inclusion, equality, and hope. Although inspired by Pride, the logo also represents a broader message—that every eligible individual, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, race, religion, or background, should have the opportunity to help save lives through blood donation.

The current logo debuted as Blood is Blood expanded its initiatives, including the launch of a semi-annual community blood drive, the growth of new partnerships, and continued advocacy supporting the transition toward individual, risk-based donor eligibility policies.

While the logo evolved, the mission remained unchanged: promoting blood donation, reducing stigma, educating communities, and ensuring every eligible individual has an equal opportunity to help save lives.
